It wasn’t possible without this crew
Throughout this 2 day shoot we had plenty of issues arising, a lot of last minute decision making & consolidation. For many, things would’ve fallen apart & even become too much but we had such an incredible cast & crew that rolled with all the punches (which they were light) and had beautiful creative ingenuity that we were very easily moving through scenes & make them even better.
My favorite scene to shoot.
Every scene is my favorite to be honest, but there was something really special about shooting this particular one.
This is one of the turning points in the film, to represent Angel’s worst nightmare, and to do so we turn this home into an empty shell.
My goal was to have the intensity rise, making it as wierd as possible & utilizing dream-like elements to create a contrast to the previous scene which is light & a beautiful moment between Angel & Maria.
It was a challenge as we were running out of time on this scene to shoot what we needed that invoked these surreal moments & the raw emotion that our actor needed to express.
Thankfully under the guidance of MG (Assistant Director) & Juan Velasquez (Director of Photography) we knocked this out of the park, it was incredible to witness everyone come together to pull this off.
I wanted to cry witnessing this. The entire film amounts to this moment. Seeing this after so long having this scene written it changed everything. Everything came together in this moment and while we had more to shoot & even less time to do so (stressing out our Assistant Director) we needed to spend the time here to ensure we are able to capture this final moment with these two characters.
And oh how I will miss them.
After wrapping
While there is far more to get into in future newsletters, I wanted to share some sentiments & moments before going into the new year. Thank you for being part of this journey & can’t wait to delve into even more very soon! Be safe, stay warm & Happy New Year.
Gracias por apoyarnos, Sergio Javier Valverde
