Bienvenido to our first edition of CREAR: Cortometrajes Independiente. I’ve asked our filmmakers two important questions to understand more: Why does their story matter & what their goal is with their film.
This month we bring you two films; VOLVERÉ y RANSOM
These are films that are independently made so learn more about it & consider supporting them in their journey as they share more about their process!
Volveré
Pre-production
Maria must hurry and complete all her duties at work in order to pick up her son from school; however, an unprecedented obstacle comes in her way.
The Goal:
The goal with this story besides bringing awareness to the injustice that immigrants face, is to also show that immigrants are humans and deserve to be treated like humans.
Why Does This Story Matter To You?
This story matters to us because we want to bring awareness and show the struggles that immigrants face in this country.

Ransom
Pre-Production & Fundraising
Two best friends on a losing streak hatch a poorly planned ransom scheme to get rich quick.
The Goal:
My goal with this film is to reach queer people of all ages who are tired of the "bury your gays" trope and other ones like it. I want to offer a respite from the struggles we face and create a world where we can forget about those problems even if it's only for a couple of minutes.
Why Does This Story Matter To You?
This story matters to me because all of the characters are queer in a way that doesn't need to be announced. They just exist in this world. It's a queer comedy without the typical tragedy that I grew up seeing in queer media.

That wraps up this month! Please consider supporting these films in whatever capacity you can, these are incredible filmmakers who are doing this from the bottom up. Telling stories that are deeply meaningful to them and we need more of that in this industry. Films are films. These are stories that matter. See you next month.
